I am here to give a completely different viewpoint from almost everyone else here. I love the book, it is dark and moody and mysterious, not for the faint hearted but a stunning book. Yes it is darkly shaded but that adds to the mood and you can definitely colour it in amazingly. I belong to a facebook page where lots of us are colouring from this book and everyone loves it. Several people had looked at these previous reviews and decided not to buy it until they saw some pictures from it done. My review is buy it if you like something different but if you want to colour pastel shades and pretty this is not for you.

This book is really fantastic! It has some very original artwork to color and I love the artist's use of lines it has a scratchy but intentional scratchy appearance. Like a comic book kind of, it's very graphic. I enjoy the darker images because it's a style I don't usually get to color. It's harder to find darker style coloring books. The images are not one sided, however to the left of each page is an excerpt from the book to accompany the page to the right so you can use markers and not have to worry about prioritizing pages to color or not color. I may even buy this book again so I can color pages differently the second time around.
I saw a lot of complaints about the quality and sketchiness of the pictures but I decided to try anyway, I love the idea of a horror styled coloring book. It's very unique! The shading of the pictures really adds depth to the finished picture, and the story style is fun. I'm very happy with it, though I do wish there was more pages to color, and perhaps a bit thicker paper. I did my first coloring with marker, but I think colored pencil (soft cored) might work out a bit better. There was quite a bit of bleed through with marker... again due to the thin paper. All in all, I would suggest this book to anyone looking for a different and unique coloring experience, I love it!
I absolutely love the graphics in this book. I wish there were more books like this out there. It reminds me of Alice Madness Returns, which just so happens to be my favorite video game. I love the dark shadows.
This IS a coloring book, albeit, a dark and gritty one. Not for everyone, but my younger sister loved it. If you dont like dark this isnt for you, but if you have an appreciation for unique artwork then you should give this a shot. I was gonna make photocopies of some of the pictures in here to keep for myself, but forgot so i guess i'll have to buy it again someday.
The pages are a bit thin & the illustrations a bit dark- but -I am having no problems with either! I put a piece of cardboard underneath the page I'm coloring so there are no pressure marks. I'm using pencils, so there's no bleed through. As for the darkness of the illustrations, this is a nightmare story, so it'd be weird if it was light & bright. I've only colored a few so far, but you be the judge. Personally I think they're coming out great!
I love this book, it has some great twists on the original Alice illustrations and the drawings are amazing on their own. A lot of people are saying that there is too much shade work by the illustrator for this to be considered a coloring book and I was worried about whether or not I could make these look good, but if anything the shading helps make the colors look even better. With the exception of maybe two or three pages none of the drawings should be ao heavily shaded that you cant do anything with them. I just wish there were more drawings in this book besides the 10-15 we get because I feel like there could have been so much more given the source materials.
Several comments talk about how darkly shaded it is. I haven't found this to be an issue. I'm currently using markers, but I bought one for a friend and she used colored pencils with no issues. There is a little bleed through with markers; however, it isn't much and 9 times out of 10 there is a word page on the opposite side making it a nonissue. They are surprisingly detailed. If you are looking for a run of the mill, straight line art style coloring book, then you will fall into the hate category. However if you are looking for a detailed, interesting, takes awhile to color, but does the leg work on shading/color changing then you will fall in to the love category. I most certainly will be buying from this artist again.
